The Canada Council for the Arts has awarded 5468796 Architecture the $50,000 Professional Prix de Rome prize for their project Table for 12, which will allow hosts from eight cities to set the table for informal conversations about architecture.

The objective of 5468796’s winning project is to research cities around the world with a prominent design culture and to gain a deeper understanding of the catalysts that have built a strong commitment to architecture. At the end of the research period, 5468796 will disseminate the information with the hope that they and others will use it to expand architectural design culture in Canada and beyond.

Miquel/Andrea + 546:

In March of 2011 Arquine invited us to participate in the 12th Annual Arquine Conference, centred on the theme of “Displacements.” Following our time in Mexico City, we went on to Guadalajara to lecture at the Tecnologico de Monterrey, and partnered with a non-profit organization called 2x4 International to help design an orphanage for the community of Tuxpan.

Meet our Curator, Jose Castillo:

Jose Castillo holds a degree in architecture from the Universidad Iberoamericana as well as an MArch and a DDes from Harvard’s GSD. Alongside Saidee Springall he founded arquitectura 911sc, a firm based in Mexico City whose projects include the expansion of the Spanish Cultural Center, the Elena Garro Cultural Center and the García Terres Library. The firm’s awards and recognitions include a Holcim Award for Sustainable Construction and the Emerging Voices from the Architectural League of NYC.
