Meet our Hosts, Miquel Adria + Andrea Griborio:
Born in Barcelona, Spain, Miquel Adria received his masters degree in architecture from the Escuela Technica Superior de Arquitetura de Barcelona in 1982. Since 1994, he has lived and practiced architecture in Mexico City. Many of his buildings have received design awards, and have appeared in various publications in Mexico and internationally. He has taught at several institutions in Mexico, and since 1997 has been the editor of Arquine, an international architecture magazine. Adria is also the author of several books, specializing in the architects and architecture of Mexico.
Miquel/Andrea + 546:
In March of 2011 Arquine invited us to participate in the 12th Annual Arquine Conference, centred on the theme of “Displacements.” Following our time in Mexico City, we went on to Guadalajara to lecture at the Tecnologico de Monterrey, and partnered with a non-profit organization called 2x4 International to help design an orphanage for the community of Tuxpan.
Meet our Curator, Jose Castillo:
Jose Castillo holds a degree in architecture from the Universidad Iberoamericana as well as an MArch and a DDes from Harvard’s GSD. Alongside Saidee Springall he founded arquitectura 911sc, a firm based in Mexico City whose projects include the expansion of the Spanish Cultural Center, the Elena Garro Cultural Center and the García Terres Library. The firm’s awards and recognitions include a Holcim Award for Sustainable Construction and the Emerging Voices from the Architectural League of NYC. Castillo is a visiting professor at Harvard’s GSD and a member of the advisory board of LSE Cities and Urban Age.
Congreso Arquine is an annual conference hosted by the magazine in Mexico City, with a unique architectural theme each year.
